Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
