Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

He saved four early-game break points in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
